Professor Schifano is one of the very few physicians with training and specialist qualifications in both psychiatry and clinical pharmacology. He has made contributions to several areas of addiction psychiatry and general psychiatry, including stimulant drugs, mortality studies and drugs and the internet.
He has been awarded the ACCEA Bronze Award (9 national points).

Dr Albanese holds a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery and a Postdoctorate Specialist Diploma in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy from the University of Padova (Italy). He is currently a consultant psychiatrist in the adult mental health division at BEH.
He has had two years' work experience with different drug and alcohol teams in the UK and was an active collaborator in both the Psychonaut Web Mapping and the ReDNet Research groups.
His research interests range from the psychopathological and epistemological issues of mental disorders to the psychopharmacological and clinical aspects of substance misuse. He also has a special interest in psychological approaches to the treatment of mental disorders and has published works on addictions and on empathy and autism.
