Dr Thompson also works as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Early Intervention for Psychosis service in North Warwickshire. He spent five years working as Clinical Director of the 'at-risk mental state' clinic (PACE) in Melbourne, Australia.
His research interests include risk factors for developing psychosis or psychotic symptoms (such as social cognition and trauma), novel interventions in FEP and the 'at-risk mental state' (including technological interventions).
